The oldest of six children, Russell was born at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, on October 28, 1954, while his father was on active duty in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea.  In 1960, Russell’s father began a career with IBM, and the family moved from Oklahoma to Endicott, New York.  In 1965 Russell’s family moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, when IBM opened a new plant at the Research Triangle Park.   

Education

Russell graduated from Wake Forest University in 1976 with a double major in Politics and German.  While in college, Russell studied abroad in 1974, during the fall semester, at the University of Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria.  Russell graduated from Wake Forest University Law School in 1979. 

On June 26, 1976, Russell R. Bowling married Rebecca Louise Lutterloh, who was raised in Sanford, North Carolina.  After graduating from Law School, Russell and Rebecca moved to Franklin in August of 1979. 

Russell R. Bowling is a past President of the Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce (1984), and a past member of the Town of Franklin ABC Board and the Macon County Board of Elections.  Russell currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Macon Program for Progress, and the Community Care Clinic of Franklin. Russell and Rebecca have two daughters and 3 grandchildren.  Russell and Rebecca are members of the First United Methodist Church of Franklin.  Russell enjoys running, and is a member of Franklin’s Shameless Running Group 

Experience

Russell worked with the law firm of Jones, Key, Melvin, and Patton, P.A., from 1979-1991, becoming a partner in 1984.  In 1992, Russell started his own Law Office specializing in Social Security Disability Law, and also handling other legal matters including: real estate, wills and estates, personal injury, and traffic offenses, and criminal cases.  Russell is a sustaining member of the National Organization of the Social Security Claimants’ Representatives, and also a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, the North Carolina Bar Association (Real Property Law, Elder & Special Needs Law, and Estate Planning & Fiduciary Law Sections), the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and Elder Counsel.  Russell is a Board Certified Specialist in Social Security Disability Law.
